Biografia

Biography

EDUARDO GAGEIRO nasceu em Sacavém a 16 de Fevereiro de 1935. Empregado de escritório na Fábrica de Loiça de Sacavém de 1947 a 1957, conviveu diariamente com pintores, escultores e operários fabris, que o influenciam na sua decisão de fazer fotojornalismo.

Com 12 anos publica no Diário de Notícias, com honras de primeira página, a sua primeira fotografia.

Começa a sua actividade de repórter fotográfico no Diário Ilustrado em 1957.

Foi fotógrafo do Diário Ilustrado, O Século Ilustrado, Eva, Almanaque, Match Magazine, editor da revista Sábado, Associated Press (Portugal), Companhia Nacional de Bailado, da Assembleia da República e da Presidência da República. Trabalhou, nomeadamente, para a Deustche Gramophone - Alemanha, Yamaha - Japão e para a Cartier. Actualmente é freelancer.
É membro de honra do Fotokluba Riga (ex-URSS), Fotoclube Natron (ex-Jugoslávia), Osterreichisdhe Fur Photographie, O.G.Ph Viena (Áustria), Gold Year de Honra (Novi Sad, ex-Jugoslávia) e Excellence F.I.A.P. (Fédération Internationale de l’art Photographique - Berna, Suíça).

No II Congresso Internacional de Repórteres Fotográficos, realizado em S. Paulo, Brasil, em 1966, foi nomeado vice-presidente.

É actualmente o único português com uma fotografia em exposição permanente na Casa da História Europeia, em Bruxelas, desde 2014 (id:333).

EDUARDO GAGEIRO was born in Sacavém on the 16th February 1935. He was first employed as a clerk at the Fábrica de Loiça de Sacavém (one of the country`s largest ceramic companies) from 1947 to 1957. He lived closely and on a daily basis with painters, sculptors and labourers who influenced him in his decision to take up photojournalism.

His first photograph was published on the front page of the Diário de Notícias when he was twelve.

He began his career as a photographic reporter for the Diário Ilustrado in 1957.

He worked for Diário Ilustrado, O Século Ilustrado, Eva, Almanaque, Match Magazine, Associated Press (Portugal), Companhia Nacional de Bailado (National Ballet Company) as well as for the Portuguese Presidence and Parliament.He was editor of Sábado magazine.Also worked for Deutsche Gramophone-Germany, Yamaha-Japan and Cartier.Presently he is working free-lance.

Honorary member of the Fotokluba Riga (former USSR), Fotoclube Natron (former Juguslávia), Osterreichisdhe Fur Photographie, O.G.Ph Viena (Austria), Gold Year of Honour (Novi Sad, former Juguslavia) and Excellence F.I.A.P. (Federation Internationale de l`Art Photographique-Bern-Switzerland).

He was voted Vice-President at the II Congress of International Photographic Reporters held in S.Paulo, Brazil in 1966.


He is currently the only Portuguese photographer with a photograph at the permanent exhibiton of the House of European History, in Brussels, since 2014 (id:333).
